Plywood is a wood-based panel product made up of thin layers of wood veneer, called lamins. The thin layers of wood are glued on the faces and are layered long grain – cross grain to create the plywood. The outer layers of plywood are usually of better quality in order to give the best finish.

Plywood is a commonly used building material because the nature of the material makes it less likely to split. The layers create a more stable material less likely to expand or shrink if treated right.

Plywood comes in a range of thicknesses which is another reason that it is so commonly used for building, as it is possible to be specific with intolerances in which thickness you want depending on the use for the wood. It is possible to buy plywood in a variety of species and can be cut to size and shaped for what you need it for. The nature of plywood means that it will cut accurately.

There are various types of plywood for sale; soft plywood, which can be made of softer woods like pine, and spruce and if Chinese can be made with a popular core with pine faces. This is most often plywood used for construction purposes like hording etc. Another kind is hardwood plywood or mixed hardwood and is a general use and has two fairly good faces. A further type of plywood is birch faced or birch core used for its good faces for painting and light faces.
